Eloise Poorhouse Farm Asylum and Hospital 18391984 MI Images of America Patricia Ibbotson 9780738519548 Books Reviews

  • My grandfather died there in the 1940s. I was interested in seeing what it would have looked like when he was there. Lots of pictures and bits of information under them. It really was a city in itself.
  • I really enjoyed the book. I grew up just blocks away from Eloise in the 50s and 60s and did some volunteer work there when I was in high school. It was interesting to learn some of the history of the place and the time. I also enjoyed the history that was given of the people in the book, the descriptions of their past really helped put their decisions into perspective. I found the book very interesting!
  • Fast shipping!! Fantastic Product!!
    Very Happy!!
  • I am 60 yrs.old and live in Detroit. I remember the stories about Eloise, good and bad. I had a Auntie who was a patient at Eloise a couple of times. When she got drunk she would go berserk and end up at Eloise. Amazing history story of the Great Poor Farm and Medical Institution.
  • Arrived very quickly, in excellent condition. I love the book and am almost done reading it. It's good to know the history behind a place like Eloise, I live right by it and go there as often as possible to see the remaining buildings.
  • I grew up near Eloise and knew that it was a "nut" house, but didn't know the full story. This book is so enlightening as to how patients with mental illnesses
were treated. Excellent read and the pictures are also good.
  • Interesting from a genealogy/history point of view. There were at least 3 of these type hospitals/asylum in Michigan.
  • Very interesting book. Learned so much in history about a place right under my nose, I never knew about.
